The resulting equation, P = IV, can be combined with Ohm’s law, V = IR, to create other useful power-equation variations.

Most problems can be answered using both P = IV and V = IR as separate equations. However, being aware of all of the power-equation variations does allow for faster problem solving.

CHAPTER 13

Magnetism

Learning Objectives

In this chapter, you will learn how to:

∘Examine the properties of magnetism and the types of magnets

∘Draw, analyze, and solve problems for uniform magnetic fields

∘Draw, analyze, and solve problems for the magnetic fields that surround current-carrying wires

∘Analyze how electricity can be generated by changing magnetic flux in order to create electrical pressure, to create emf, and to induce current flow
